konnichi-wa...

i was born in tokyo several years before the great kanto earthquake. after it devastated our family business, my father managed to rebuild--but he died soon after, leaving my mother with five young children. at age 13, i had to quit school and leave home to work in order to help my family survive. in my 20's, i  returned and continued my education, pursuing my love for apparel design. then, wwii began. the devastation i witnessed was horrific yet i managed to persevere and married an american soldier. after giving birth to my mixed-race daughter, i joined my husband in segregated texas--where i got my first taste of the u.s.

after living in germany for several years, our family moved to washington state where i performed japanese folk dances, wrote haiku, sewed everything from drapes to dresses, and cooked multicultural meals fresh from my garden. when my husband divorced me, i remarried. it was during my second marriage, and after my children left home, that i was finally able to pursue my passion for painting.

i hope you enjoy viewing these visual treats as much i enjoyed creating them. they're all available for sale, too! (please contact us for prices.)
